Tannoy is the brand name which became part of the English Language
Tannoy is a British manufacturer of loudspeakers and public address systems and is one of the oldest and most prestigious audio brands in the UK. Guy Fountain was the company’s founder, starting the company back in 1926.
One of the first products the Tannoy company made was public address systems. It was a communications system that had loudspeakers for making announcements in public buildings, such as schools or in large retail stores.
Today, Tannoy can be found in some of the most prestigious audio installations in the world, including the Sydney Opera House, the Hong Kong Convention Centre, and the London Palladium. Many hotels also have the Tannoy in their concert halls, including at the Bellagio Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
The company’s main factory is in Coatbridge, Scotland, near Glasgow, where they have been for more than 35 years.
